FAMILIES TAKE PART IN THE HYM END-OF-PROJECT PARTY By Claudia Alsina - July 2011
On 9 June 2011, in the afternoon, we held the HYM end-of-project party for the HYM Project, in one of the city’s central squares and with the participation of 6th-year pupils from the Joan Solans and Salvador Espriu schools and their families. The aim of the meeting was to introduce the project to the entire city and to give the pupils themselves, who have been its protagonists for the last two years, a chance to transmit all they have learned about healthy eating habits and physical activity. The party was open to all children and their families who came to the square. Participants at the party firstly passed through an information area about the project with information and photographs of the work done over the last two years, while at the same time the functioning of the different workshops was explained. After playing different traditional games from Catalonia and Denmark, the children went on to the homemade lunches workshop where they prepared a simple and traditional sandwich containing bread and chocolate spread or bread with olive oil and sugar, in order to replenish the energy expended. Other participants were given the chance to be creative by doing drawings under the slogan “A festival day with sport and healthy eating” and others, with plaster moulds, used clay as a modelling substance, to make pieces of fruit that they could then take home. The day was organised with the very valuable participation of the parents’ associations as well as that of teaching staff and families from the two schools, who voluntarily energized the workshops. The collaboration of the Municipal Sports Service must also be acknowledged. Families have been the key element in backing this end of project, which has allowed it to be extrapolated to other families in the city and framed within a more open context which goes beyond the classroom and the school, in short, transferring healthy habits to the entire city.

HEALTHY YOUNG MINDS IN THE PASS AWARDS IN BARCELONA
Last 26th of October, PAAS third edition was held in Barcelona ( PAAS being the whole of measures taken by the Health Departament to promote physical exercise and a healthy diet).
PAAS includes most of the actions taken in Catalonia to prevent obesity through healthy ways of life.
This year, PAAS prizes were given, for the first time, to people working in Catalonia on projects related to the education, community and working fields. We presented two projects from our town council in Granollers, one of which is called Healthy Young Minds.
Our project has not been awarded this time, but we did receive a prize for another project, called “Avall”, in which we also applied IVAC methodology. Fifth year students from Salvador Espriu and Joan Solans primary schools, also took part in this project, together with students from six other schools in Granollers.

Healthy Life Plan: eating fruit
Salvador Espriu School is participating in a healthy life plan. Our goal is that children learn to eat in a healthy way. One week per month, all the pupils from 6 to 12 years eat fruit at the playtime.
On Mondays, once a month, farmers of Lleida bring a lot of fruit in a lorry.
This fruit is eaten by children and teachers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Some parents help us to accomplish this project. These parents wash the fruit pieces, they prepare them and they cut the fruit into pieces for the younger pupils. Finally, they hand out the pieces to the children.
We eat seasonal fruit. For example, in October we ate some tangerines, grape, apples and plums.
WE ENJOY EATING FRUIT: IT'S GREAT!!!!
