Ballerup municipality

Ballerup is a municipality, with 50.000 inhabitants, 12 schools and numerous sport organisations.

The Municipality has the official aim to be The Healthiest City 2010, in Denmark. Thus it is important for the municipality to focus on health promotion in all levels of education, work places and institutions throughout the city. The numerous sport organizations provide a solid foundation for developing a new approach to community-based health promotion, while focusing on what motivates children to engage in physical activity.

The Municipality has a strong tradition for implementing a democratic aspect in the education system. Every year the mayor invites 2 representatives from year 6 of all the schools in Ballerup to participate in deciding and prioritizing some of the new interventions in the schools.

The Municipality of Ballerup is among the first municipalities in Denmark to have the international dimension as a task in the local curriculum. All schools have to work out a plan for how to integrate an international dimension in their future work.
